Hi, I am having an issue with a simple layered list texture map shader I am using for a new model.  I have never seen this issue before. Almost all of the object I am shading works perfectly except for an are on one side of the front end of it.  I will include an image so you can see what I mean.  I will also include an image of the object in the modeling room.  Any help appreciated.  This is one of my first attempts at a fairly complicated vertex object, so I am probably doing something dumb which is causing this.

Here's the other image.

How ar elooking the UVmap for the ship body? Looks that the texture is getting stretched in the front... and you have a lot of polygons here

Like I said, this is my first time messing with the vertex modeler.  I have another one I made identical with the spline modeler, and it does the exact same thing.  The texture is a 3000x3000 image map.

Is the model uv mapped or are you just applying it to the shader domain?

I just created a basic shading layer.

You'll need to uv map the object since the front of the ship was probably and extrusion, it causes the stretching - I find it easier to uv map in Hexagon or Uv mapper - but if you can uv map in carrara, then the texture will apply correctly :)

What I normally do is I create a spline object, then set up the first rib to be what it needs to be for the back of the object.  I them create a single section for the front end.  I separate these two parts, go to the back end section and create multiple cross sections, for each point in the model that needs a shape change.  I then set each frame to skin shape to shape and modify each section accordingly.  For the frontmost section on this particular model, it only has 2 points which are both located at 0,0 on the grid to give the sharp point.  To me it looks like the texture is being stretched and dog eared some how.

Now all I have to do is learn how to do a proper UV map. :)  I have never had need to do it before.

I don't think it will apply correctly until it is uvmapped, but maybe someone else has another idea?

Well,  I wasn't getting anywhere with redoing the UV Map, so I decided to do something drastic on the off chance that is might work.  I brought in the spline version of the object which was just as messed up as the vertex version.  Then I deleted the cross section which was second from the front.  I then used the one right behind it and created another section in the same rough place that the problem one was.  After playing around with the geometry to get it to the right shape, I copied the cross section with all of it's nodes.  I then went to the next section which is the one in the front where the nodes converge and selected all of the nodes and deleted them. I then pasted the copied section in, effectively duplicating the second section at the tip of the ship.  I then systematically retracted the manip handles from each one and move them to position 0,0.  And ya know, it worked!  I don't see what could have been the issue but I noticed in only affected the skin between the 1st and 2nd sections and then only on one side.  I guess Carrara has issues with some kinds of geometry under certain conditions.  Anyways, thanks for all the suggestions.  Now that this is sorted out, I hope to have this on the marketplace soon.

Cool! Good luck and let me know so I can add to Carrara Lounge list

I still have to do some promo images, tweak it a bit and wait for approval once I upload it.  I'll let you know when it goes live.
