how does one change the direction of the Poser menu's in the work space from horizontal to vertical without using the Alt key?

I'm in ubuntu, and the ALT key controls the window only... it won't control anything in a program.

so, which Ini file/ config file and where do I set this?

(and I say again for the person that will pop up and say 'hold the alt key....' WITHOUT the alt key!)
