I ran into the same problem.  The solution is simple:  Create a text file
with the name and folder that Daz wants:
C:Program FilesCommon FilesDAZdzInstall.ini

The file doesn't need to contain any information ... just make it nonzero
with a few spaces or something.  When the installer sees this file is
present, it will go ahead and install V4.

Why does DAZ keep letting sloppy stuff like this out the door?  Irritating.

I did the same thing except I created a text file named, unoriginally, Poser.exe and my V4.2 installed just fine into an external runtime.

Oh my god this installer was living you so little freedom... Why didn't they made them the as they used to to make manual install easier?
I have another problem... now what's that about the million .pz2 files poser can't find on under the !DAZVictoria 4 folder?
In my Victoria 4 folder there are only subfolders of every bodypart with pz2 files in them...
Also the name of the pz2 that poser searches begins with V4 while in the folders the files begin with 02-ps_pe069_DAZ_
