Subject: Growing realistic grass: ideas?

Recently I've been looking at ways to create grass for my scene, and I'd like to go beyond using texture maps and create actual 3d grass.  Namely, I'll need a field of regular grass approximately 100 by 100 feet with the camera about 30 feet away, tilted downwards about 10-30 degrees.  I'd like to explore free solutions, but I'm not opposed to something that I need to pay for.  Any ideas?  Thoughts?

Edit: I found out about Digital Carvers' Guild "Anything grows"-does anyone know if I can use it to create a field that large using my machine (core 2 duo, 3 gb RAM)?

Anything Grows is nice - but may not be the total answer. Using the surface replicator is probably your best bet. For the image shown at the link above, I simply make a couple of clumps-of-grass and then replicated it across the terrain. You could us Anything Grows to help with the clump. When Anything grows first came out, I did [ this](http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=217419&member) image with it.

You can use the hair system C6Pro, I saw many renders done with it  to create grass fields, some are at Daz gallery.

I was going to mention that and forgot GK. Thanks for filling in the blanks!

No problem, but I never tried to do that using the hair in C6, I just saw some works here and at Daz gallery.

Here's a quick test of grass using C6 hair. It probably needs a bit more tweaking but it's pretty close.

play with the shader for length, wave, etc.

This is very good, think that can do a great animation for blowing wind in the grass

You can mix up different 3d plant models w/ replicator. Probably look most real.  I think the hair has limits for grass, but is a good choice for animation.

No need to think outside the box....
    Just make it invisible.

The secret to use hair as grass is the scale,so thehair can be large e more believeble.
