Hey Carrara artists,
My name is Jeremy Hanke and I'm the editor of Microfilmmaker Magazine, the online magazine for low budget filmmakers. We have teamed up with Renderosity in the past to create other 3D articles and are currently planning a new article.
This one is a 3D comparison article in an upcoming issue of our magazine and I'm looking for specialized 3D artists who would be willing to convert two scenes to their specialized 3D application for this article. We are looking for an artist who would be willing to convert two scenes created in Cinema 4D to Carrara 5 Pro for this article.
If you're interested in doing this, you would get credit in the article for your work, a link to your website, and our undying gratitude. As I mentioned, the original application the two scenes were created in was Cinema 4D and we can export any other file formats Cinema 4D can export. Additionally, all the textures we used in the original will be made available to you, with each artist being asked to render the scene from a pre-specified angle at the most photorealistic appearance possible. Obviously, since it is a comparison article, no post-production touch up would be allowed.
Let me know if you would be interested by emailing me at: jhanke@microfilmmaker.com
Thanks much,
Jeremy

Jeremy, a most important question: how much time is available. That would make a huge difference in thinking about this interesting comparison... Regards, Hoof

Yes, not to mention that Carrara6 will be out in a couple of weeks, so Carrara5 would be out of date. Iwould think Carrara6 would be the better choice as to new and improved animation features.

Hey folks,
We're looking to have this done by the 20th of September. Obviously, if we can get it done on Carrara 6 Pro, that would be best, but I thought it wasn't going to be completed until the end of September. I could be wrong on that.
Thanks,
Jeremy

Here are the specific details:
Basically, you would be converting two cinema 4D scenes (one indoor day room and one outdoor night alley) to Carrara 5 Pro (or Carrara 6 Pro if it is out by then), replicating lighting, opacity, and other considerations to the best of your abililty and the ability of the software by September 20th. You would be given the .C4D scenes, as well as any .OBJ, .3DS, or other file formats Cinema 4D can generate, along with a master picture and textures. The goal would be to make the Carrara scene look as much like the Cinema 4D scene as possible and as photorealistic as possible.
If we have additional artists who are interested, then the one who can make the render look the most similar in layout, while at the same time being the most photoreal would be the one whose images and information we would "print" in our online magazine. (The reason for the emphasis on photorealism is because this 3D roundup is part of a series on greenscreening, in which greenscreen footage will be blended with the 3D background.)
Thanks,
Jeremy
