This is in response to those occasional "My HD crashed and I lost all of my data!" threads.  To me, burning everything to DVD is a chore that I'd rather avoid.

If you have or can afford two hard drives -- then here's a link to a free data backup program called Back2zip.  It works across networks, too.  We use it at my office, and I'm using it at home.

It literally takes about 2 seconds to install, and it's super-easy to use.  Just give it a backup folder destination; list the folders that you want backed up; set the level of compression for the backups; and set up your backup schedule.

Warning: the first backup pass can take awhile -- especially if you select high compression and have huge directories.  But once the initial backup is done, then the software will automatically do differential backups every day as per your schedule.

Insofar as I know, this is PC-only.

I hope that this can help to prevent someone from losing stuff that you can't get back.
