Hey fellas!  It's been a while since I last posted on here.  A couple of years in fact.  I've been trying to get back into 3ding after a long hiatus.  I blew off the dust to my graphic applications and got back to work.  Unfortunately no sooner than I did have I ran into a problem that's driving me nuts.

As you can see in the image above, I've been trying to apply a spot light to a curved section of a wall, but as soon as I enable soft shadows does the light cut halfway off traveling down - this pretty much occurs with all lights except Anything Glows, tube and shape light.  I've tried fiddling around with the various settings to try and resolve the problem but with no luck.  Is there something I'm just not doing right?  Also I'm still using Carrara 2.0 to render this, so I'm starting to wonder that may be the problem right there, seeing as I've heard the application is quite buggy.

It's Carrara 2. Now at Version 5, there have been some significant improvements and additions.

Is it just Carrar 2?  I'm on a bit of a budget and I was thinking about get a Previous verison of Carrara (either 3 or 4).  Does that problem still occur in those verisons?

V3 will treat you ok but V4 would definately be the way to go if upgrading ot V5 isn't in your future.
