How do you use this feature. I looked at the manual, but their is no mention of it anywhere. The word "Displacement" is not even in their glossary. Any tutorials available? As far as I understand it, this is like a super pump feature, right? Where you can actually modify the geometry of a model to reflect a displacement map?

The displacement is on a separate tab of the object's shader. It only works on a whole object though, not per shading domain :-(

I know where it is, I just don't know how to use it. What I am attempting to do is to emboss a logo on a surface, any suggestions. I have the logo on Adobe Illustrator CS2 that can easily be converted in tow a grayscale. Am I on the right track? When I import it as a Grayscale is just give me a very wacky deal that dose not resemble what I am attempting to accomplish.

It would help if you posted an image of your problem, because you're on the right track. Maybe enabling "subdivision" on the Top Shader already fixes your problem...

O.K. figured it out. I am uncertain why it didn't work the first time, but I got it to work the second time somewhat. Thanks for your help Dizzi. The only thing is that my logo is very clean in Photoshop/Illustrator, but when I do the embossing in Carrara, it looks very rough on the edges, like if it was badly carved by an amateur sculpture artist. How do you smooth things? Thank for all your help.

You must have a very high level of subdivision to get clean displacement. It can only move the actual polygons that are there.

Thanks that answers my question, and your response makes a lot of sense. Thanks Patrick.
