If the light is passing through something, you may have to manage the shadow options between your object and the light cone. -Kix

As I recall, light cones won't work if the light is shining through a transparent object, like your windows here. Are the lights on the inside or outside of the windows?

Yeah, most likely the windows are blocking the light. It's a carrara limitation with volumetric light.

The angle of view may be hiding the cone. I recently did a model with two light cones associated with lights behind transparent objects. You'll find it on this page: http://home.att.net/~JVNautilus/Catalog/some-designs.html It's down near the bottom of the page at the paragraph that starts "Didier Jaffro sent me a copy". The image on the right shows one of the light cones. Click the Carrara "C" icon for a popup window with a psuedo-animation that shows both cones. Notice that they only show up from directions that the light is shining.dirk5027 posted Fri, 24 March 2006 at 8:58 AM
thanks much everyone got it to work

It will pass just not show up in the air or pick up color. You will see it on floor or other object.

Announced on the chat today, "Light cone through transparency" in Carrara 5.1 to come out in the next couple of weeks.

Yes! I've been whinning to Eovia about that one for some time (well since about C4 Pro) - even showed them how trueSpace did it so nicely. This is good - Eovia likes it's customers.
Eovia's good attitude is one reason why I put in my order for Hexagon a week ago.
Thanks for that nice news tid-bit Patrick!

Yeah, that was exciting to hear. I posted the other things under Ringo's post about the chat. Several things in there are going to be nice.I am glad you whined.

I have used Light cone just in front of semi transparent disks before with no problems. If you put some good refraction and an anything glows on the disk it looks neat. A light sphere also helps it makes a nice effect. Check out the cybernetics bay and hangar images in my gallery to see how they came out.

There are things you can do to try and fake this, but having this really work as a 3d volumetric light will be great. It was partially there so why not all the way.
