I have installed Carrara 5...but when I try to use it, all I am getting is "unknown error when opening ____" The blank includes "new","object","sky"...everything I try to do brings up this message. I am on a PC with Windows XP SP2, with Pentium 4 CPU 2.60 GHz and 3.62 GB of RAM. Can't seem to find out what my graphics card is. I have tried repairing Carrara, but it didn't help. I don't know if it would help uninstalling, then re-installing. The program will not even bring up the toolbars. Please help!

Yes, uninstall then reinstall.

Have you made sure you have the latest version of both DirectX and your video card drivers? It may seem odd but a lot of programs you wouldn't think would care; actually will have major problems with some video drivers and hardware. For instance Paint shop pro will not install at all on some systems with a dual core AMD Athlon64 AND the latest NVidia forceware video drivers, so you have to install the beta drivers for it to work. I know because it happened to me. :) C5 is pretty picky too from what I can tell. If a full reinstall doesn't help check the drivers and such.
