if i create say a "max" option (math function, such as add) is it possible to save it in the menu for shader parts? NOT save it to the library as a shader design, but to the menu with all the functions/patterns to choose from :) also, another question if i use a mixer, and put in 2 texture maps, then use formula to drive the mixer, is it possible to access the 2 inputs and get the colors of the pixels at a chosen area?

You can write a plug-in that does those things and becomes part of the menu for shader parts. For example, the Max function is part of the Shader Ops package of shaders. It's one of my favorite mixers.

Download the SDK from eovia's site and give it a whirl. Shaders are actually one of the easiest plug-ins to get working and a great place to start developing.

Good luck,

woo ^_^ and the "accessing the 2 inputs from a formula" thing?:P

I don't think that formula shaders give a sub shader. You'd need to build a plug-in. Regards, Eric Winemiller Digital Carvers Guild Carrara plug-ins

Grab the SDK, compile the samples, join the carrarasdk mailing list at yahoo groups and feel free to send me an email if you've got questions. I've helped a lot of people get started making plug-ins.
