Hi gang; Is there a program that can convert .bip to .bvh motion files so I can import them into my Pro Pack? I'm betting this has been discussed before, but I thought maybe some of you had some updated methods (if there are any) Thanks

3DS Max with Character Studio.

thanks little dragon, unfortunately I don't have 3DS Max. Would be a bit pricey just for converting stuff..LOL I dont think demo versions of 3DS allows saves either. I was hoping maybe there was a standalone converter capable of that, or maybe somebody had written a plugin, or python for poser that could do it. It's hard searching for something on the net, coz every page it points to is somebody who wants to tell you the story of their life, and don't get to the keyword point. Not to mention the 9000 "click" here ads..RME

"I dont think demo versions of 3DS allows saves either." I think the demo version does allow you to save certain files, but I'm not positive. Might wanna check into that. I have a full version of 3dsmax 7, and I'm quite sure there is no way to make the .bip to .bvh conversion directly. Sure, you can easily convert .bvh to .bip, but not the other way around. CS Biped uses a parametric skeleton, and even if you were able to convert it, the parts would not be named correctly for use as a .bvh in Poser. You'd still need to manually rename the parts yourself, or use a motion editor like MotionBuilder or Lifeforms to rename joints correctly. The only reasonable way I can think of to get a .bvh out of a .bip file is to save the .bip animation to .fbx file format, then use some other software to convert THAT file into a bvh.
Tools : 3dsmax 2015, Daz Studio 4.6, PoserPro 2012, Blender
v2.74

Thanks max, what then after the .fbx files..wouldn't I still have to convert them once again to a .bvh file? sorry max, not too familiar with animation formats other than .bvh I'll check out the 3DS site, and see what the demo can do..if it's available would I need the whole 3DS mess..or just the character studio as little dragon mentioned..err or does that stuff all work in integration? or maybe go to the 3DS forum and hire someone to convert them..LOL

" Thanks max, what then after the .fbx files..wouldn't I still have to convert them once again to a .bvh file?" Yes, as I mentioned, you'd still need something to convert that .FBX format over to a bvh animation. Motionbuilder, Lifeforms, and some other various applications can do it I know, but it's the only way to make the translation from .bip to .bvh that I can think of. If you were trying to go the other way around, it would be much easier. "would I need the whole 3DS mess..or just the character studio as little dragon mentioned..err or does that stuff all work in integration?" CharacterStudio is an integrated part of 3dsmax in versions 7 and higher. In earlier versions, you'd have to purchase a license for it seperately, but it still worked together with 3ds. So to answer your question, you need the whole 3Ds "mess". ;-) Honestly, this isn't going to be easy for you if you're not familiar with animation conversions or working within animation editors. So long as the motion file in question permits redistribution (might wanna check into that), then your best bet might be to find someone who owns 3dsmax, Poser, and a motion editor like MotionBuilder or Lifeforms to do the conversion for you.
