Bryce has whats called a nano preview window that does a simi real render of the scene you are working on but it's small, it's on the lefthand upper corner of the bryce interface. Vue 5I has something simalar on the right side of the interface, it's called a real time scene preview, this one is better because it can be made bigger or move it, it also does an update render whenever you change something in the main scene. Does Carrara have this type of small window avaible that shows the "whole scene" rendered but small that updates when you make a change to a scene. If so how can I open it and permanently doc this to the working interface Thanks

Not really but you can do plop renders, there are some scene previeve options that will give you a render preview if you turn them on while you do your adjustments (3d cloud, sky room, tree lab ect..). You can use the gl feature turned on to give you realtime feed back. Depending on your hardware a preview render is alot faster then the nano preview is and will give you a good idea what you scene will look like. Carrara has a much faster render engine then bryce so its not a chore to do a quick semi realistic render.

I've been doing plop renders to get by.I thought Carrara would have a whole scene Nano preview and that I just hadn't found it yet, dissapointing:( Now that would be a useful carrara plugin. Has some Carrara Plugin Miester written up one? I'm getting a decent graphics card and a new mobo with pci-e. that should help on open gl. But I miss the small preview of Vue 5 and bryce.

Carrara may not have the mini preview screen. But it has a lot more necessary stuff than Bryce or Vue have.

I have both Vue5 Infinite, Bryce5.5, and Carrara5 Pro. I really don't miss the slow updating of Vue or Bryce. Carrara's rendering engine is so much faster than either of those applications that a 640x480 render-room render or a plop render works fine.
The shear quality of Eovia development work is so superior to e-on, that I use V5I less and less. I have a big bit-bucket of Vue issues!

Remember that you can set up your viewport to be split in two with a small window top right. You can set this to your camera so that you can quickly so a preview render of your scene whichever view you have in your main window. Also the preview window in the other rooms can be preview rendered in the same way.

Hi all Don't get me wrong. Carrara Is becoming my favorite app. It's bigger , better, and very imporant! faster, I can see that they care about the quality of this. Due to my other apps, I just thought a small rendered preview was kinda standard and was suprized that Carrara didn't have it since it has really about everthing else I would like. And Falcon, are you saying that the preview window you speak of can be set to do an auto update render when you make a scene change.

I don't know that the bigger better programs out there have nano preview windows? Poser doesn't (not that poser is bigger or better) I know the demos of maya, and C4D I've tried in the past didn't... and I often wonder if these preview windows don't slow the programs down. I've used bryce and Vue, and as with many others I don't miss it/them. In fact I wish when I was looking at yet another 3d program back when I got vue (or even when I picked up bryce) that I would have known the power of Carrara... I never would have gotten the other programs and then I'd have more money for plugins, groceries etc. :P But that's me. C~

No, you can't set it to do that. You need to drag the Test Render over it. But, as in the Modeling Room, you can alter the display so as to show your models with textures.

Hi enigmaticredfrog pretty sure that the preview window in vue and bryce does slow up some things But I need one sometimes. It is nice when you quickly see the result of a change. So a window with an on off would be good. And I was not saying that my other programs are bigger and better faster than Carrara. I was saying that Carrara was bigger and better faster than my other two apps Bryce and V5I.Actualy V5I is a lot Slower and seems buggie But has Big features to. Thanks falcon as I put my new system together later this month. My open gl display might have enough detail to work for me. When the time comes. Do I just hit USE OPEN GL or are there advacned open gl settings in Carrara that can be be activated individualy. Thanks

I knew you weren't saying they were bigger and better :) I was just pointing out that I think they are in the minority re nano windows. JMHO
