the nice little marker that shows if new messages have been posted in a forum seems to have developed a glitch... with the modelling forum. it was active, yet clicking into the forum, no new messages since last visited. checked the archive, and the forum is correct, but the new messages is still there saying someone has posted.

It could also mean that someone deleted a posting.

no, deleted postings are visible as deleted until after you mark as read. ( at least I can always see a deleted posting until I have read the forum and mark all read. )

It could be that a mod or coordinator has moved a post to another (but hidden) forum.

No, only the first of a thread that is deleted is still visible. If you delete the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc., the deleted post is only visible to coordinaors/moderators, but the forum still registers the activity.

You can prove this to yourself, by the way, by posting to this thread and then deleting. The forum activity thingy will still show that you have posted even though you deleted the message.

I have also seen what Jaq is talking about..sometimes it will say on the forum page that there are new messeges..but once there in the forum of choice, there is nothing there/nothing new...weird. also, I have 'marked all read' after reading up on everything..then coming back in later and seeing a 'new messages', I click it, only to find that nothing is there....it still shows me the 'marked read' page :(

glad to see I'm not the only one getting this minor bug.

seems to have been caused by mods / admins moving a thread. just happened again, and it was when a mod moved a thread into here, and posted that she moved it. thread was originally in the html forum
