what with rebuilding the system it's taken a bit to get started on it.

but this is the "frame" to be used for the pontoons of her.

for those that don't know swath is "Small Waterplane Area Twin Hull" it is a ship design that has 2 submerged pontoons, that ride below your average swell on the ocean, the uprights from them are very thin, creating a very small drag co-efficient, and the main body is above the water completely.

this design minimises the action of waves on the vessel.

for scale of this frame, figure the inner radius of the frame to be around 4 feet. allowing someone 6 feet tall to stand on a deck inside it. ( also providing the bouancy for a ship that will be 150 feet in length )

and this is the full set of frames for one pontoon. this spans 130 feet.

Wow. Cool Rhino work. :)

yup, rhino's nurbs are the easiest for getting right into structural detailing, like ribs for a ships hull, wiring for power, plumbing etc. since it's now my "weekend" I can actually spend some time working on it.

okay, breakfast is over. inner and outer hulls added to pontoon. number of ribs adjusted to fix math error. deck added.

and image size limit for post fought with to post this thing.

I love the rib detailing. Looks like you are building it to sustain a fair amount of pressure.

well, it would be at the 15 to 20 foot depth mark. so a bit of pressure. but by designing for high pressure you are designing for heavy usage... storms.. cross ocean sailing.... with something like an ocean going yacht overbuilding the strength is not a negative, in my opinion. might cost more to build, but the additional strength means less chances of catastrophic failure when a thousand miles from help. :)
