Just in case you're wondering what insanity I am up to this time... these books are for this library I am working on for the animation project of a friend. I am not sure if all the detail is necessary, but it looks kinda nice. :o)

This is astounding work mate! You really are a glutton for punishment! This question is more a matter of curiosity than criticism so don't be offended. :) With all that detail and modelled books it's a fairly high poly scene I would think? Lots of polys are the last thing you want when animating so wouldn't some of this detail have been better acheived with normal maps and/or displacement? Baz

stu thanks for the compliment, coming from you... I am humbled that you like it. It helps that I have a few scraps of reference plans lying around here. Baz you are probably right, my friend. I'm not sure all this detail is needed for the animation, and I am positive it won't be healthy for it. The entire library is less than 25,000 polygons (in LWO format) and each vertical section of books is less than 3,000 polygons. Not too heavy, I think. And if I create them as layers per vertical section, they can then be toggled on and off in the animation as required by each shot. Cheers! M

This is just amazing and very inspiring stuff Moe!

Oh, just out of curiousity; will you also have one of those roll-around library stair-ladders so the books on the upper shelves can be retreived? The folks in the Victorian era were quite a bit shorter than we are now.

I notice you have spaces between the books on some shelves Moe, maybe you should have a few books leaning over in these spaces? It would look a little more natural. - Baz

Great work...I was thinking the same thing as BazC...You hardly ever see a book shelf with out a couple of books leaning over...I also would put a couple of objects in the spaces...bust..small statues...coke cans..books put in backwards...It is soooooooo cool
