I'm mainly modelling for Poser & looking to buy either Carrara, Vue or a seperate plug in that expands my tool kit & has good boolean capabilities that work when exported. It seems Carrara works ok with booleans from what i'm told but what is the exported mesh like? Anyone got experience of this that can help before I throw my away? Thanks Brian

Hmm, I don't know if Carrara is too good for the booleans, but Amapi (Amapi Designer 7 comes with Carrara Pro) is pretty good. The demo version of Amapi can save files, at least a3d files from what I remember, but Amapi takes a little longer to learn, and from what I've seen of it Amapi Pro's interface is a lot better than A7D's interface, but also comes with a bit of a price tag.

I haven't used Carrara for boolean cutting. But its OBJ file exporting is excellent.

Has a tutorial on Carrara modeling for Poser.BrianR posted Mon, 11 April 2005 at 11:25 AM
Thanks, i'll take a look at that.

It depends on what version you perform the booleans. Boolean operations were significantly improved in C3 and after. One of the best tips I can give for boolean operations is to have the same sized mesh for the places where the obects intersect (where the boolean will occur). That way, the sizes and spaces for the newly generated mesh don't have to generate too many new vertices. Keeps the computations down and makes for a cleaner cut. -Kix
