ok....i want to model more clothes for my projects...but the problem is it's just way toooo difficult in Carrara...i modeled the simple dynamic skirt below BUT took way too much effort... now i want to make another skirt and top for my poser women, and i want to know if you know of a way that can speed things up. OK...so when i make a clothing item for my Poser people, you obviously need a guide when modeling. what i do is i import the OBJ file of the body part i want to base the clothing on. for instance, if i want to make a bikini top, i simply export the breast parts of say V3 from Poser. then i import this into Carrara. the breasts appear in the vertex room. it gets complicated when i can't draw vertex points on the body part as if i was just tracing on a piece of paper over a drawing. this happens because the model becomes editable, and carrara assumes that when you add a point on the mesh you want to add it to the actual mesh, even though you don't cause you want it to be separate. so i guess my question is, is there a way i can use pictures to guide me in the modeling process instead of the actual mesh i want to base my clothing on? im using C2.1 is there a feature like this in C3 or C4? i'm thinking conforming clothes (that prety much have the same shape as the body it fits) would just take a super duper amount of effort and hair pulling to model in carrara. i have no problems modeling things like weapons in Carrara...but when it comes to models that have to fit other models, such as clothes, then forget it.... any tips greatly appreciated. You can import photos on the grids in C3 and C4 in the vertex modeler. With C4 your other option is Amapi, which also applies photos to the grids. I think modeling this type of stuff would be much easier in Amapi. I think ZMorphics has a Tracer plugin to for drawing over, it might work in C2. Patrick Tuten

Two things to try if you're using Poser 5: 1) Import the breasts into Carrara and modify the mesh so that it is now clothing of some kind. Resize it and export it back to Poser to fit on the figure. 2) Use Amapi (version 6 is free from 3D World #57 and Computer Arts #102 magazines) to import the breasts into and model your clothing around the mesh as a separate object. You don't need to do any resizing. Export the clothing to Poser.

The only problem with using the mesh, is that if you are going to sell the clothing you are not allowed to use the Poser meshes as part of your work.
