I decided to learn a bit about Amapi 5 (the one that comes with C3, version 5.15w once the patch from Eovia is installed) in order to be better prepared to work with Amapi 7 once C4 is out. I can't do the Amapi 7 demo cuz I allowed the 90 day timer to lapse. hehe. After going through a few tutorials I've stumbled into enough little bugs in Amapi 5.15 to make me not want to touch it, i.e. numeric input and names being invisible, Workshop icons superimposing themselves on each other, even selecting points with the 'bullseye' is not consistant. Are there fundamental bugs like this in version 7? I don't think it's my system, although I guess it's possible. I'm running XP Home, P4 2.66, 1g, 128m vid, 180g hd. I run a lot of other 3d apps and have no 'bug' troubles with them beyond those that everybody else has, too. I don't really want to bother with C4 Pro if Amapi 7 is this buggy. Thanks for any feedback.

Hello Tunesy, Yes, version 5.15 was very buggy. 6 got better. Currently, I use V7Pro and am very happy with it. In fact, some the modleing you can do with NURBS filleting and camfering quickly and easily is astounding. It's got a couple of quirks still but finally quite stable. Mark

Glad to hear 7 is getting better. For a long time I could not use it for more then a few minutes without a crash. As for Amapi 5, I have given up on it completely, I see now why Eovia included it free. Actually I don't see why they included it as it is virtually unusable on both of my systems (G5, and P4). The PC has the problems you state, but the Mac version is much worse. Major drawing issues that make it completely useless, at least in Classic mode with OS 9.2. I will try again when I get C4 Pro, and I will try out 6 next month when it is free on the next 3D World Mag... -Paul

If you're not going to be doing NURBS modeling, Amapi Pro 7 is an ok polygon modeler to use (some, not all, of the bugs in Amapi Designer 7 are fixed in the Pro version). Hopefully Eovia will fix the many bugs still with the NURBS portion of Amapi Pro 7 (I don't think they're updating Amapi Designer 7 anymore). BetaNURBS, as I call them, were a good idea in both programs.

Thanks. I'll take a pass on C4 then. I can't believe how buggy Amapi 5 is. Wouldn't bother me if it was version 1.5 or so. Amapi Pro just isn't worth it to me, as I don't plan on doing much, if any, NURBS work.
