One of my co-workers used Automatic Update to install XP SP2 this morning. My co-worker is not a "computer geek" -- he simply followed the prompts. He's doing his work on someone else's computer today.
The SP2 update has thrown his PC into an endless "boot loop", from which there appears to be no easy way to recover.
"Winserv is missing"
The attached URL describes the problem exactly.
I won't attempt to install SP2 for some time to come.

I have my Auto Updates shut off. My computer is not broke. I don't have any viruses thanks to a router. Leave sleeping dogs lay, I say.

People have started reporting problems with Vue d'Esprit and XP SP2 by the way..... I am going to wait at least 6 months before installing that one.

If it might mess up Vue then I'd rather not take the chance...

OK -- after reading about the experiences of others, both positive and negative -- and after seeing what happened to one of my co-workers: I decided to gamble and load SP2.
I took precautions such as setting System Restore points and checking backups.
The transition went as smooth as silk. No problems at all.
Not only that, but my system seems to be running faster. And with greater stability.
People's experiences appear to be coming in mixed.
