Hi Guys and Gals, I am going to start a collaborative short film project with Carrara and Amapi and I am looking for people who are willing to help. The goal of the project will be to create a professional level Animated film created completly by volunteer Carrara and Amapi users. The majority of the films direction will be determined by the volunteers. I will use my experience with past films to guide the production of this film as Senior Director. The film will follow a tradional animation pipeline of concept, pre-vis, modeling, texturing and lighting, animation and rendering. Different members will be assigned different tasks such as Lead Animator, Modeler, Junior Director, etc,... and we will use a new Carrara group on yahoo.com to collaborate all of the efforts of the film. We will also use instant messaging to establish direct contact between different participants to perform tasks such as critiques and dailies. This film is going to ge a great opprotunity to show the world what you can do. And it will be even more impressive that it was done in Carrara and Amapi. If you are interested please email me at "matt@eovia.com" with the subject of "Carrara Film". I will be more than happy to field your questions. Thanks for your time. I think we can really make something Special. A friend of mine tried that with an actual movie (non-CG / 3D) which we are still working on. We had about 10 volunteers from as far as England. They were all going to shoot short segments (2-5 mins). But as time went on, we didn't get any segments and they all bailed on us. Hopefully your experiences will be more successful. Suggestion theme for your project: A good horror film for Halloween.

I don't know much, Matt, but I'm willing to help. I can probably do the simple stuff. Kane, 2 - 5 minutes per person is ambitious, especially if that is ~30 fps (3600 - 9000 frames), and it takes 10 minutes to render a frame (GI). So that's 3 - 9 weeks of render time. It's easy to see why they would have to drop out. I would say, make the whole film 5 minutes, with "takes" or cuts or 5-10 seconds each. It fits the target demographic better.

Mateo, I thought I specified that is was not a CG production - it is a regular film / video with live characters. I was saying that the premise was the same - get submissions / segments from several users to make 1 complete film. Carrara or similar software is not used for actual footage (though I will create some graphics and a 10 second intro animation made from Carrara). Sorry if I didn't explain it clearly.

Whoa! You mean all they had to do was film their pals or some scenery for 5 minutes with a DV camera? Jeez, you have my sympathy!

It's actually a horror / zombie film which takes place at a TV station. The other users were going to submit reports / footage / segments from places around the world. We were going to incorporate them in the script and "broadcast" them as live reports. Since they failed to come through for us, we are just filming everything ourselves. It would have been cool to collaborate with people from different regions like that.
