Subject: Free Poser models?

voidchaser ( ) posted Wed, 14 January 2004 at 9:41 PM · edited Tue, 04 March 2025 at 1:17 PM

Have just picked up the Poser 5 program, and have begun experimenting with it. I have not yet reached the decision if this is the program I want to use, but I do want to experiment some with other models than the default ones. Could anyone perhaps point me to a place where I can get hold of free models for this program?

Right here. Click on the words "Free Stuff" underneath the banner at the top, select Poser, and you are in Happy Poser Land.

hmmm you will face some problems: Free characters are usually "young" (in a 3d existence way of speaking) that means they were released recently for most (2003) and still have a small but active communauty each that try to support each, bringing clothes, textures and such. As "beta" characters still in testing and developpement, they sure may have flaws... The most complex and polished models are DAZ's vickies and mikes and stephs now, with version 3 of each, but 2nd one still popular, and most of free or commercial stuff you"ll find would be for them. Judy and Don (poser 5 ABSe figures) are much more complex and detailed in theory than old p4 figures (face rendomizer etc) and can take advantage of most poser 5 features (dynamic cloth, shaders etc), but truth is that theri base texture are dull, and they are plain in shape. Once upon a time many here thought that no matter how much you would morph her, judy would remain as ugly as judy is... but if you want to test a FREE good poser 5 figure, keep your judy and visit Yamato's website and "make" yourself his "Anan" (a character based on judy but with reworked geometries). As for copyright issues h cannto let it as it for download, but he maintain a tutorial and links to provide you all informations and tools to transform your judy into AnAn. A very good asiat model i would say. Search this forum for yamato name or judy or new judy or anan. Despite her flaws, there is still another free model relatively popular these days (and still growing) that yet need improvements but is a definite chane from base p5 figures (yet lack many face expression) with a good free wardrobe: mayadoll. Also if you can manage (on a websie, or a cover disk or anywhere, don't want to know) to get your grasp on a Reduced Resolution Vicky 1 (ancesor of daz's vickies, once was given for free) there are many characters based on her. have nice day btw what were you planning/wanting to use poser for ?

You can also get the Reduced Resolution Mike figure on the cover of 3D Design magazine this month. Most of the free Mike products will work on him.

and some stephanie too as i heard that steph (not the 3rd, te oen before) was based on mike (sounded odd to me but it seems hey have same uv mapping and material names, and some morph can be shared...)

numanoid ( ) posted Wed, 14 January 2004 at 11:13 PM

mike 2 and stephanie 1 are based on the same mesh, so they can share some morphs and maps. Vickie 3, Mike 3, Steph 3 and The Freak are based on the unimesh, so they can share some stuff. Don't quote me though, I am just bored and too depressed to work, so I am just posting stuff where-ever I feel my two cents might be read.

If he just found FS, approaching ten-thousand items now, he probably won't surface again for days. However it's a worthy question and would be nice if there was list somewhere of figures based on original, free, geometry. Such as: Maya's' "MayaDoll" http://www.3digitalcrafts.net/studiomaya/ or...

nance, though i can be labelled as a "living giant advertising" for mayadoll, she still has many flaws, because of being a model released only half a year ago, that were never adressed or corrected (see my summary point on her, in a thread in this forum) though one cannot say I am here to flame her at all :)
