Hi - New here... While I'm wating to receive my copy of 3 with Vectorstyle, I thought I'd ask if anyone knows of or has made examples or a gallery of Vectorstyle output - I've seen what's on eovia's site. Unfortunately when I posted on the Yahoo newsgroup, people seemed to think that by Vectorstyle I meant any old 3d flash app, so I was getting links to things like Swift 3d; I realize there are similarities, but I'm specifically looking for Carrara>Vectorstyle examples. Any leads greatly appreciated! Thanks, Andrew

FYI In case it wasn't obvious, (and how couldn't it be?) Shoner's thing there wasn't done with VectorStyle. It was done with the Viewpoint VET export option. It has nothing to do with VectorStyle. And your search continues...

"And your search continues..." Yeah, it's weird. At least it's closer than Optimaze.

Carrara 2 didn't come with VET did it? I had to install VectorStyle before I could make it, I think. www.shonner.com

I may have some VectorStyle stuff on my older computer. I haven't copied the drive over to my new system yet.

You're right, C2 didn't come with VET. At the time (of C2) you could download the VET plugin from the Eovia site. It also came as a bonus or extra (or whatever you want to call it) on the VectorStyle CD (which is where you may have gotten it). VET is now integrated directly into C3 (you no longer have to install it as a plug in). VectorStyle however is still a separate plug in.

I downloaded a patch from Eovia recently so that VectorStyle works with C3. I haven't tried it out yet. Probably this weekend, though.

With that patch it works exaclty the same as it did in C2.

I tried to get Swift activated. So now VectorStyle is my app of choice for getting vector stuff out of 3D files. Even for a cube with perspective, or (more important) text in 3D, VS is my plug-in of choice. Sometimes I just render outlins and make my own gradients in Illustrator, because too much light conditions give too much unwanted variations. A gallery is not available. But it is worth the wait. Depending off what you expect from it ofcourse.

"A gallery is not available. But it is worth the wait. Depending off what you expect from it ofcourse." WTF??? LOL.. the check is in the mail... Vectorstyle doesn't exist, does it? C'mon, fess up.

Eh. Okay. It doesn't. All you get is an empty box with a REALLY thin booklet that shows you how to hand trace your renders. Which involves a lot of clicking with your mouse or pen. But if you tell nobody, they will send you a lighter with the VectorStyle logo. Because I do not smoke I decided to finally expose this scam! Maybe I can make a gallery today. * starts clicking a lot *

I can't get my head around Vectorstyle at all :(( Obviously, I completely misunderstood what it was all about - I thought it would enable me to export animations as .swf, looking much like the animations I'd rendered. I've finished up rendering normally (either full render or using cartoon shading), saving as gif or avi, then using a cheap little program (Flash Image Builder 16.86 Euro) to convert to swf. Anything I've tried to render as swf using Vectorstyle just comes out black/grey/white :(( I'm sure it must be useful for something........? What am I missing? I'm using it with Studio 2.1

Pogmahone, I just recently got Vectorstyle so I haven't used it for anything yet. My impression is what your impression is. With regards to the colors being black/grey/white try the following. Create your image/model/animagion in Carrara and save as a .car file. Then save same file as .swf file . When you save as .swf a new dialouge window should come up with the ability to change render settings of vectorstyle. Change these settings to effect the style of your image. I have attached an image of the vectorstyle window you get during the save to .swf process. Hope this helps Regards Mike

Pogmahone, I should have said " my impression of what Vectorstyle should do is the same as what your impression is." Regards Mike

"I thought it would enable me to export animations as .swf, looking much like the animations I'd rendered. " It will, however it will not render texture maps or procedureal patterns. (example: If you make a marble texture it will render a solid color, no marble banding). There's no reason your stuff should come out only black/gray/white unless your scene either contains no color or you have your settings wrong in VectorStyle.
