Hi everyone, I'm new to the Carrara forums, but some of you may know me from the Bryce forum (aka the guy working on getting Bryce 6 in action). Just wondering if Carrara 3 can do soft/blurry/juzzy reflections at all? Scott Richardson

Attached Link: ZTools from ZMorphics, with Blurry reflections and more
It is possible with a plug-in from ZMorphics (TCFKA Lost Horizons), see link.pendulum posted Wed, 03 December 2003 at 4:16 AM
Bugger.. only for Windows. I'm on a mac! Scott

Well, so am I. So that's why I think blurry reflections are highly overrated. (just looked around in my office, no blurry reflection in sight) But someone should try to squeeze those tools them in OSX though.

heh.. just worked out that blurry reflections usually appear on a surface with a VERY fine texture or bump... so.. just give your material a layer of noise.. and you will be fine... super fine noise will work... and then add reflection... it seems to do the trick! Scott

The only thing is that if you use DOF, an object in the distance will remain sharp reflected in an object nearby. I presume. That would not be accounted for whith changing the shader. But we are talking checkerboard/chrome ball situations then, in the real world noise will do the trick. Be prepared to send your render times through the roof though. I wanted bump on a sandy beach and my G4 double processor was chewing on it for two and a half day. Hoof
