I am thinking of taking the Apami plunge, but I have heard that it was kind of unstable there at it's initial release. I am aware that Eovia has put out a couple of patches for it. Dose it work good with Carrara? Is it worth the money? I also know that it doesn't come with good documentation. I have played around with the free version that came with Carrara, and have learned a bunch. I like the way it works. I am using a Mac with 1.2 dual G-4 processors with more than a Gig of RAM, so I should be OK as far as hardware. Any input on this would be greatly appreciated.
Cristian.

Carrara2 and Amapi work great together. In fact, there is a plug-in that allows importing Amapi geometery seamlessly. Then, if you need to change the geometery, (like some NURBS changes) you do that in Amapi and then you click an update button in C2. Pretty slick. My understanding is that there will be an update of the Amapi plug-in for Carrara3 but I haven't seen or played with it. Amapi 7.03 has been pretty stable on my system which is very similar to yours. Is there a Demo of Amapi7? I pre-ordered Amapi7 shortly before its release and unfortunately I had to return it as it would crash every few minutes on my system, even causing Kernel Panics. I didn't want to wait to see if the patches took care of it as I couldn't use it at all. I am on a G4 DP450 with 1GB RAM and OSX 10.2.6. If they have a demo of the latest patched version then I would try it out first for stability. Regards, Paul

Yes, Amapi V7.0 was unusable on my system too. I was really disappointed with it and had to use V6 In fact I wish they would have waited on the release, at least for the Mac platform, another month and fixed the boatload of issues prior to release. They patched it three times in 4 weeks. With each of the first two patches, my hopes would get built up that I could start using it and then find out that it was back to V6. I was about ready to ship it back myself. 7.03 works great though. It truly is a great modeling program...now. My understanding of Eovia is that Amapi is built and managed by a team in France while Carrara is built and managed by a team in the U.S. so what happens with one product line doesn't mean it will happen to the other. From personal experience, C3 has gone through much more complete testing prior to release - on all platforms. A good thing...

Thanks Mark, I guess once the money comes in, I will place my order. Cristian.
