What is this utility? I have not run across it yet, but if it has D3D's name on it, I probably want it.
Thread: Raytracing and Indirect Light - a no-no?! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I don't think this has anything to do with geometry, reflections or raytracing.
I was working on a scene, with one David one Paperoll from Render Studio for Poser... and just a bunch of lights. No reflections, nothing odd... and the render was fine until some point, it just decided that it was NOT going to finish precalcing the indirect light. No matter what I did, once it was done... it was done. I backed up several steps with render settings and materials, all to no avail. Eventually I just pulled the thing into Poser Pro and did without the IL.
And I do mean that it just stops. The display of the precalc stops at the top right corner somewhere, though the status message may eventually suggest that it is done, it never goes on to the rendering stage. Repeated this behavior multiple times.
Thread: So...so! Do we have SSS in Poser 8? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL

**"I can READ"
Of course you can. My post was not addressed specifically to you. The title of this thread mentions SSS and Poser 8 together, and has already been read by over 200 people. Many like yourself will have just heard about Poser 8. Not all of them will have read the features posted at Smith Micro (hence the link), and not all of them will have already bought the program and looked at the available features.
LMK
politely snipped
Perhaps it just seemed that way, early in the morning with not enough caffiene in my system. You know how easy it is to mistake intent on a forum. My apoligies for snapping.

Quote - well fast skin shader is very good IMO. it gives very good results. not everything needs to be physical correct to give us good results.
What is this "fast skin shader" you speak of?

Thanks everybody for the input.
I can READ Lkendall; but you never know what features might not be highlighted by marketing that really ought to be. And since this is something I would very much like to see in Poser, I figured I would ask if anyone knew the correct answer. I just heard about P8 yesterday, because I have apparently been under a rock somewhere.
Thread: Problem with OpenGL | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
PaganArtsist, I while post my settings when I get home. They are probably far from perfect, it was my first stab at it.
Blackhearted, you are of course correct in your observations about it not being Nvidia or ATI's issues. And you are right about not changing the hardware acceleration system wide, don't know what I was thinking trying to follow that suggestion (you can't even do that anymore with most cards). I guess I just expect to have Open GL... and SREE has always struck me as ugly, annoying, and hard to work with. So I guess its a personal thing.

Adjusting the specific program settings in the Nvidia control panel for Poser.exe and PoserPro.exe prevented any crashes last night. Here's hoping that continues.
I'll try my second machine today, and see if it corrects there also.
If anyone is interested in how i set mine, post here and I will gladly let you know my settings,

Bill... you need a life outside of the Poser material room!

But you are the best
Thread: Poser SR-3 problems | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Really.... I didn't know that. Since all my external folders have a Runtime, I guess I wouldn't have noticed. But I don't think that is the problem that SandDancr is having.
Thread: Poser SR-3 problems | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
SandDancr,
the SR really doesn't change Poser's location on your hard drive, it will still be in the same location. Its just the Start Menu shortcut that is different. You would install into exactly the same place you have been all along.
Thread: P7 - PPro Inconsistency | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
So... we, as users, need to (goddess forbid) LEARN to do something, rather than relying on all our old tricks? Either that, or wait until people come out with updated scripts.
I'm not averse to learning... and somehow, some way, Poser Pro actually makes more sense to me. I admit, I was shocked the first time I turned on GC, after building a scene with all the usual tricks (many of which just really, don't make sense... like lighting a scene with 4 lights that have intensities that add up to way over 100%). But then when I started to play with it, and see why I was getting the results I was, I started to see that stuff actually worked the way I always thought it should... and not how I trained myself to think about how they worked in Poser.
This comes as a bit of a relief to me.
Thread: Pose Converter? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
To quote someone (I forget who): Universal Poses does not a Puppet Master BiPed make.
No offense to anyone who uses them, or likes them... but Puppet Master (esp the update) does a MUCH better job of converting poses.
It takes a few minutes from start to finish to copy a pose (literally 5, counting loading of required figures, etc, for me). The poses are not always 100% perfect, GIGO...but Puppet Master does a great job.

That seems to be the suggestion, PaganArtist.
I'll be sure and try this... since I can't seem to find the hardware acceleration slider in XP 64 bit for my Nvidia cards. I think it may have gone the way of the dodo.
And, lucky me, it started to happen on the one stable machine last night.
Thread: Problem with OpenGL | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I have this same problem (Poser 7 and Poser Pro) on ONE of my two rendering machines. The machine that has the issue has a really crappy Nvidia card in it (which obviously means nothing, now that I see PaganArtist has a card that smacks my "good" card around). Someone elsewhere here suggested turning down hardware acceleration... I have not tried that yet. Anyone here?
Thread: ---> Poser 7 Service Release 3 Now Available | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Well, copying the file from elsewhere on the pc into the runtimepythondlls folder has solved the issue for the moment.
