Using subdivision in Poser makes the edges a little bit too rounded- I'd like that to be last resort. Today, I am going to see what happens if I split the edges (separating the caps from the cylinders), or beveling the edges in Blender.
I assume this is no longer a problem in Poser 12? I actually just bought Poser 12, but haven't installed it yet. I've been delaying installation because I know I can't just plug in my old Runtimes and files, and I've been dreading the work it's going to take to make everything usable. I'd like to finish current projects before dealing with changing version; but I also don't want to spend too much extra effort modifying objects as work-arounds for problems in Poser 10.

Ok this is really strange, such a phenomenon never occurred to me ! Was worth a try :) Does the same thing happen in Blender when you hit Smooth Vertex ? or do they stay together?
They stay together when I use Smooth Vertex.

My guess would be that vertices aren't welded along the edges. I can see it happening with the latch portion too. Since it sounds like you've checked that, I'd look and see if it isn't somehow becoming split in the export/import process, perhaps something to do with the seams because it is following those.
My other thing would be to try turning off the smooth polygons in Poser.
Do you mean to turn Smooth Polygons in the Render Settings checkbox? Or on the object, or both? I tried unchecking it in render settings. The edges don't tear- but now they aren't rounded at all.

I've done remove doubles and delete loose geometry. Multiple times, as I have remade it a few times to see if more subdivisions or holding edges would work.
I was wondering at first if seams could be the issue, but there is only a seam around the edges of the bottom part of the plate where it would touch the door. The top edge away from the door has the split too, but it doesn't have a seam.

Yars ago on the Smith Micro forum there was a discussion about splitting faces. Part of the problem is the order in which the faces are read. The other part has to do with smooth polygons. Smooth polygons is only meant for figures as in people and animals. Not for hard surfaces that only bend in one direction.
I could try beveling those edges a little, but I was trying to avoid using more faces than necessary, especially when they are going to end up being very tiny faces.

Let me revise my update.
I had been using both Custom Scaling and Custom Text Size enlargement.
It was Custom Scaling that was causing the parameter name cutoff. The Custom Text Size was not causing the problem.

I did, and turning that off resolves the problem in Poser. That leaves me a new problem general readability of everything on my computer. Now I have to figure out something else to do with my display to make it usable.What surprises me is the difference in sizes between the labels and the inputs in your dialogbox
Even though this is a Poser11 dialog box, and if I remember correctly, the sizes and fonts remain coherent:So that I wonder if you haven't ask Windows for bigger fonts, somewhere?
I searched for ways to adjust font sizes in Poser 10, but couldn't find anything. I assume it is not possible?

This is persistent among loading files/figures. Resizing and moving the palette don't help. It doesn't even seem to be affected by length of parameter-name, some short ones get cut off. And then didn't get cut off at all before switching computers (difference between using Windows 10 and Windows 11 somehow?)

Got the XL library manager in the marketplace. It works!!! Will take me a little getting used to but I will do it.
Is that still available? I just did a search in Marketplace for it and could not find it.
Edit: With a little more persistence, I think I found it.

Open your Poser.ini found in your settings normally in
AppData/Roaming/Poser Pro/ "Version of Poser"
Open the Poser.ini with Preferable Notepad ++ Free software. Activate in search Incremental search ! search for the line
LIBRARY_IS_AIR 0 and replace with LIBRARY_IS_AIR 1
LIBRARY_EMBEDDED_TYPE 0 and replace to LIBRARY_EMBEDDED_TYPE 1

I re-ran the simulation, adding a Voluptuous morph to V3, and adding the chair (used 0.1 for static friction for it). It's now a 60 frame simulation: 1-15 crosses the legs, 16-30 adds the Voluptuous morph, 31-60 bends the legs and sits V3 on the chair. (V3's rear does not touch the chair; there's a small gap of about 0.01 Poser units) The simulation takes about 0.5 seconds per frame for 1-30, slows down to about 3.0 seconds per frame on 31-60. I don't know that the extra frames helped anything, I could probably halve the whole thing and get the same results.
It's certainly not perfect, but the simulations are taking me 1-2 minutes each, so it wouldn't be too time consuming to experiment with tweaking it.

It's probably easier once you have experience with the cloth room.
I tried something quick with V3 and a close-fitting knee-length dynamic skirt. I didn't spend too much time setting it up, and mostly used defaults on settings. The settings I changed were unchecking drape, setting collision offset to 0.1, and setting static friction to 0.1. I used the first 15 frames to cross the legs upright, then the last 15 frames to bring them to sitting. I forget the simulation time, but the simulation took about a minute or so to run.
The skirt creases are rough, I don't know if different simulations settings would smooth them out, but unless I could find a quick answer to that, I'd probably use the fitting room tool or Photoshop to deal with the creases. The skirt isn't as tight as I'd anticipated, so I'd have to add a chair and rerun it with a step to sit her on the chair
I have a conforming version of the same skirt. It has extra rigging to work with walking poses, but it's useless with the cross-legged sit.

Another thing that might help a potentially tight simulation is using the additional cloth collision options (object vertex on cloth polygon, object polygon against cloth polygon). It makes the simulation take longer, but in my experience, even my slow computer handles it okay. (I've only had problems with objects with really, really high polygon counts.) As I understand it, those two options are different ways to double- and triple-check each frame of the simulation to make sure the cloth doesn't get too close to the collision objects.

The legs are definitely crossed. How would scaling affect things? Are you saying I should reduce the size of everything? That would be possible for everything save her shoes. For some reason, there was no parameter to scale down her shoes. Not even in the hidden parameter menu. Easily fixed. That model has more shoes than me.
One thing. In the final crossed leg pose above. Will I need to be certain that the cloth is not touching the model in the final pose as well? I won't be draping as I want a snug fit that befits a pencil skirt. I am thinking from the advice above, that the skirt will stop a micron above her skin. Soooo does the cloth ever touch the skin a simulation?
Scaling the body parts is a way to be sure that the body does not intersect with the cloth at the start of the simulation. So if there's an intersection problem at the legs, you might start with the legs scaled down (x and z scale, make them thinner not shorter) to say 90% on frame one. However, on the last frame of the simulation (frame 30 if you are going 1 to 30), you have the legs set to 100% or whatever the scale is that you are using. The legs grow during the simulation, and the cloth moves to accommodate the leg growth.
In a successful simulation, the cloth and the collision objects never touch. There is always space between them, as determined by the collision offset. If the cloth cannot maintain that collision offset distance, the simulation tends to break.
