Thanks for this, it's much appreciated. My intention was to animate a hypno black and white spiral. I was able to do it in firefly, but not superfly. Alas, when I spun the light around it's axis I assumed the image attached to the light would rotate as well, but this was not to be. So now I'm going to try what you suggested about attaching it to a hires plane in front of the light, and spin that.

Thank you everyone for your help with this, I will persevere, and probably swear quite a bit. I have dabbled with maps but not masks. This object doesn't have a UV map, so my limited knowledge means I am trying to create materials within the group editor. For all the yars I have struggled with Poser, I should know what I am doing. I remember a tutorial video, I think it was Chuck Taylor, who said if things don't go as you expected, don't automatically assume it is you who is wrong, it might be the software. I remember this from the tutorial but little else :) :(

Hello, thankyou for trying to help me with this, and I apologise if I wasn't clear in what I was trying to do. I have the V4 Bot from DAZ and I wanted to create groups, from which I would create a material, the purpose of this was to apply a glow / ambient light effect. I hope this is making sense. The first time I tried this, I selected the polygons and created a material for them. This ran into trouble when I realised I had selected additional polygons accidentally. I tried to remove these polygons by deleting them in the group editor and reassigning the material with the same name I had used before, but this didn't work. I could see no way to delete the material, so as to start again, in the group editor or Material Room. This is when I asked for help.
I tried the method you described, but when I opened the file, I didn't get anything like you did, please see attached file. I am currently working with the helmet and mask, which are both props.

I have watched so many tutorial video's, but there are times it seems to go in one ear and out the other. If I try to apply a technique I thought I had learned and it goes wrong, I assumed I've misinterpreted something along the line. That said I was watching one tutorial, I think it was by Mark Bremer, and he said if things don't always go the way you expect, then it is sometimes a software bug and not you. This gave me hope.

This is why I usually avoid asking for help, for fear of looking like an idiot. There are times when I've read te manual, looking for answers to a specific problem and seemed to get lost in a maze. It won't happen again.

Thank you so much for this. You have no idea the frustration and the things I tried to find a solution to this problem. If only all my other Poser woes could be solved so easily :)
In preview you will only get 5 lights because of OpenGL. However if you render in anything expect Preview then the lights will all work.

I used to have BitDefender antivirus and it would throw up a warning if ever I tried to download any free content from Renderosity. Another false positive.

Hi Structure
I had the same problem. Much fruitless searching and a few expletives eventually brought me to the Forums. Thankyou for your help with this. I can now load Miki 4.

Hi Amanda
Thank you for this, I did it. You wouldn't believe the torturous, if that's how you spell it, route I took to getting there. You may have laughed or cried. First trying to find how to add a blender node, where is it hiding? The Geometry node was the hardest to find, I actually considered thinking I didn't relly need it. Then all was well elected, connected and plugged in, then it wouldn't work. Ha, Hah, I'm in Firefly, need to be in Superfly, still had the stripes showing through. Then I had a stroked of genius, look closely at settings, for me that's genius. So I changed the blending setting from 0.5 to 1, rendered and smiled. All is good with the World. Now all I have to do is go back to magnets, and EZSkin and I will be a happy bunny, hopefully. Or at least I will be when I have understood and solved the skullcap artifacts.
Thanks again for your help, I'd never have got here without you all.

seachnasaigh Thank you for this, and I apologise for not being clearer. I had seen an thumbnail image of the file on the folder in Poser, but saw nothing whe I opened the folder. I had originally created it as a JPG and then a PNG. I have now been able to create the MT5 file, just as you explained. I had looked in other Material folders and realised what was missing, but had no idea how to correct it.
Boni, thankyou for your offer off assistance. I have been using Poser on and off since Poser 4, getting more frustrated than creative. I can remember making quite nice anims and poses and then saving them, or so I thought, to the Runtime folders. Only to find later that they would not work. Putting the blame on bugs in the program and my own ignorance. I'm not sure what my skill level is, and I would be embarassed to find out, I fear I would be wasting your time, if you were to try and walk me through it.
Frustration and fear off wasted effort has kept me away from Poser, although not from purchasing gigabytes of figures, props, et al. Now, I'm trying again. Half remembering what I had tried before.
I have attached the image I have been working on, the cap has the material file I created. When I rendered this I saw how the stripes were duplicated on the inside of the cap as well, something they don't do in real life. Then I remembered somethign about backfacing polygons, so I thought, "Ha, easy I'll just tick the box in render options and the lines will disappear, well they did, but so did the cap as well :((. I will persevere, or create a render from another angle which won't show the problem.
Thanks for all your help

I want to thank all of you who tried to help me. I downloaded 'Focus for Poser' by Corvas, but I still have the same reticule as the original camobj. I installed it in the runtime folder where I installed Poser as well as the legacy content folder, which I have installed on another drive. For the sake of ease, and my lack of pc skills, I will stick with dollying the camera. I have attached a screenshot of the reticule which I had somehow managed to rotate, as you can see by the way the lines extending from the reticule go through the floor, goodness only knows how. I was using this in a project to learn how to use the camera controls, using Aiko 5. I quickly learned not to apply 'Use Limits' with this figure as it has some bizarre effects, altering the geometry of the breast and making the model look more male than female. Thanks again to all for your time and efforts.
