ok, so I fixed the issue and I'm not even sure why it worked. I started with a blank scene, deleted the old jetpack prop from my library, and then imported the retracted wing .obj. When I did, one of the import options was "place on floor". It wasn't checked, but it had never been checked before either. In this case, I clicked the check box just to see what would happen, and proceeded to import. Then I loaded the morph target (extended wing .obj). I turned the newly created erc dial and it behaved exactly as I wanted it to..... it sat perfectly still as the wings extended and retracted. So it worked. Wow... not even sure why, but I'm glad it did

Ok, I'll take a look at these options after work this evening. And Seachnasaigh, yes, both origins are in the exact same place. I'll let you know what I find out

However I did notice three things, but I'm not sure if they're important. I load the retracted wing .obj and it appears on the floor. I then navigate to and load the morph target (extended wing.obj):

I gave it a try, and when I imported the extended wing .obj (by loading it as a morph target) the origin was exactly the same as the retracted wing .obj

Ok. I parented it to M4's body. I'll try parenting to the chest and see what happens....

Thread: Why is Poser Superfly rendering with hundreds of little dots everywhere? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
For what it's worth - and I'm definitely no expert - I had a similar problem when rendering a procedural chrome shader I made. The metallic surface always had those annoying dots everywhere. I asked and some suggestions reduced them, but none completely eliminated them. I was told that it has something to do with the number of reflections in the scene. That basically Superfly was trying to do too many calculations and it was getting confused. Not to mention the fact that it also made the chrome surface look very glassy, too. It was really frustrating to me. I made some minor adjustments to my shader and re-rendered in Firefly and the problem was gone. I find anytime I render a scene, if there's metallic surfaces in it, I have much better results with Firefly. For cloth or skin surfaces, I like Superfly because of the depth of color it provides. Not really a solution for you problem, but just wanted to let you know someone else has had the same issue.

Indeed. Thank you again, so much for all the help and patience. I've already learned how to create a basic texture map with Ultimate Unwrap 3D, which is really what I wanted it for. But i can tell you there appear to be a great many other features which I find fun and yet a bit scary.... seems like so much to learn!

Trendmaster, Actually it turned out that the hard drive didn't crash.... the graphics card I had been using, was crashing and it imitated the symptoms of a hard drive crash. To shorten a long story, I can tell you that I have an internal solid state hard drive and the older drive works fine and is connected to my machine via a USB cable, so I can access whatever is on it. And I can tell you that I tried to run UV Mapper off the old drive as though it were still my primary drive and even doing that, says it's an unregistered copy

Forester, I'll take a look amd see what it's all about. Thanks for the lead. And Trendmaster, I didn't know that rebooting my PC would get rid of the I/O error. I'll give it a try here shortly and let you know how it goes. I recently scrounged up the money to buy Ultimate Unwrap 3D and it looks quite complicated. I'd say the interface looks to me like a complexity level somewhere between UV Mapper Pro and Blender which looks incredibly complicated to me. But all in all, I believe you're right in that it would be a good thing to learn new software, instead of relying on something from a few years ago, which the developer clearly doesn't care about any longer. I'd still like to have UV Mapper as an option if I can, but I'll see how things go. I'll let you know when I get the chance

Well it looks like it's not going to work.I did exactly as you said and when I hit "enter" on the command prompt, this is what I got
ERROR: An I/O operation initiated by the registry failed unrecoverably. The registry could not read in, or write out, or flush, one of the files that contain the system's image of the registry. Seems like there's something wrong with the registry on my crashed hard drive. So, it's on to the next step and time to track down and learn how to use a new mapping app.

I think I see what the problem is... maybe.
2a) At this point, something should show up in the right side of my registry editor window... a long text string which is the registry key
4a) At this point, the text string should show up on the right side
I believe those are the proper steps. My problem, if I'm correct, is that in steps 2a and 4a, there's no text string that shows up. Almost as if I'm importing and exporting nothing. So.... does the ntusers.dat file need to be opened or decoded before I attempt to export it from my desktop into the registry editor?

Ok, so I seem to be stuck.... I loaded the ntuser.dat file in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. Nothing shows up on the right side. But then I highlighted the folder on the left, and told it to export. I then imported that folder into HKEY_CURRENT_USER>software>Steve Cox_consulting>UV mapper It says the keys and values in my temp file have been successfully added to the registry. But again, there's nothing on the right side except for the default key. At this point I feel lost.....

Okay, trying it now. By the way, thank you for being so patient with me on this :)

Ok, I found the correct path under "current user" instead of "local machine". However, now when I attempt to load the ntuser.dat file, I go to "file" and the "load hive" command is grayed out and so I can't load it into the registry. If it was accessible, I could load it. Here's what it looks like
