Ahh, well for your benefit... it's supposed to depict a flat 'sheet' of cloth with holes for the head and up-stretched arms of a model.. you 'drop' this sheet/cloth down over the model in P5 and bingo! - new dress.

You doubt that my reasoning is sound, or you doubt that people will balk at spending $200 or more for P5? ;)

Good points Mallen... Designating a material would make a lot of sense if they did it that way (you wouldn't (necessarily) want a shirt collar to flatten down onto the shoulders, for example). Obviously, we'll need to wait for more details from CL before jumping to too many conclusions, but thatnks for the insight.

Thanks ;). I intentionally left the polycount low on this, to make it easier to deal with until I/you decide what direction to go with it... it's pretty easy to add more polys, but not always easy to get rid of them ;). I've got another version (different approach) on the way in a few minutes.

"As for 'pointing', I do not trust the processes I've seen on the web to yeld the proper obj for the cr2" ...I'm just guessing, but the thing that trips people up with this is the .rsr file in the Geometries folder. When you drop a new .obj file in after doing some edits, you need to delete the matching .rsr file in the geometries folder before you'll see the new mesh. Once you get used to doing that, you'll wonder why you ever spent all that time pasting geometry into the .cr2 file. ;)

Thread: AAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! My face is missing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Just keep in mind that that guide is not 100% acurate (probably due to the resolution used). The 'lip' material area, for example is off. You could also make your own templates with Steve Cox's UVMapper utility ( www.uvmapper.com ).

Thread: these damned normals are killing me........ | Forum: Poser Technical
Ok, you have one of two problems that I can see.. either: 1. You're half-right ;). You need to look at the pictures above closely... the one you uploaded first has exactly HALF of the normals correct (the ones on the front of the suit), you flipped ALL the normals, so you fixed the back side, but broke he front side ;). Go back to your original and just flip the normals of the rear-facing faces (the ones you should see from the back). 2. if you 'preview' the character from the back and you see a similar image as the top one (ie. you see armor facing you, but not any of the front-facing parts), then you don't have any reversed normals at all in your set.. your set just doesn't have faces facing both directions (no 'inside', it's just an exterior 'shell'). If this is the case, it sounds more like a judgement-call - whether you need to have intereor (sp) facing faces. Maclean, to answer your question, Poser does use Normals, just not the ones that are in the .obj file. They are computed by Poser when it loads an object. You compute a Normal (facing direction) based on the order of the vertices... if they are specified in a 'clockwise' order, then they face one way and 'counterclockwise' face the opposite way. If you have a simple 3d vertex modeller (like Milkshape) you can see how this works for yourself by creating clockwise and counterclockwise faces... one way or the other will end up invisible (it depends on the modeling software which is which).

...for the record, I think your problem is #2 above. It looks like all the parts are just an exterior shell. I guess what they are really asking for are interiors.

Thread: eyelash transparency | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
The transparency map should be a 'grey scale' image, where black is fully transparent and white is fully opaque (solid). Just load it into a paint program and convert it to greyscale and then invert it so the background is black instead of white (you may need to still 'fix' it after that, but that will get you started).
