Just a head's up... I'm on a PC and I know that installers are used to make things easier, but I won't buy a product if I can tell ahead of time that it's an .exe vs a .zip file. Call me paranoid (if you must ;), but I can't trust 500-600 Poser merchants to come up with a valid installer program - and I can figure out what to do with a broken or badly built zip. And it's not just about trust.. with a zip file, I can see (at some future date) exactly what was included.. an installer can put stuff in the registry or pretty much any place... I want to know what went where and therefore how to get rid of it or rebuild it if needed. Again, I understand that the reasons for using an installer may be completely honorable, but I don't think I'm alone in being weary of them. - Keith

Sounds like time to whip out some magnets, Emily ;). Seriously, give it a try...
...it takes a while to get the hang of it, but you'll be happy you learned it - comes in really handy for stretching clothes around to cover up poke-throughs.

re: Daz... I started to mention them in the previous message, but forgot. Yes, I do make some exceptions and buy a few things from Daz, however if I had the option of getting zips from them, I'd get zips instead. I don't rule out installer packages completely (contrary to my lack&white statement above), but it's a strike in the 'cons' column when I'm evaluating products ;). Of course a strike (or half strike) in the 'pros' column can come if I know that there's some over-riding authority making all the installers, but that still doesn't address the issue of knowing what's exactly in the package and where exactly everything gets installed. I'm sure I'm in the minority on this subject, but I thought I'd throw it out there as food for thought ;). Cheers.

Thread: Buy Pro Pack or wait for Poser 5 ? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
"...I now see that Poser 5 will be released sometime..." I don't have any direct knowledge, but 'Sometime' is the operative word there ;). Based on what's been shown, my wild-guestimate is that it might be out for the Christmas buying season (I wouldn't expect it before Fall). P5 appears to have some of the Pro-Pack features (setup room, etc) and since the pro-pack upgrade is not free, I can't imagine CL not making an upgrade distinction between Pro-Pack and Non-Pro-Pack upgrades to P5, so it really just boils down to 'when' to spend your money... if you think you want some features in Pro Pack, I don't see any reason to wait on P5. Just food for thought.

Of course, having said that, the worse-case scenerio would be if they don't merge the two programs in P5... they could charge everyone the same upgrade price to get P5 and then have a seperate upgrade path for the 'Pro Pack' version of P5. Then it's a question of whether P5 alone would have suited your needs and/or whether you felt the upgrade price to P4 Pro Pack was worth the use you got from it between now and the time P5 comes out (assuming P5 alone would have satisfied your needs, otherwise, you'd be on the P4 Pro Pack upgrade path anyway). Confused yet? ;)

Thread: Don't buy any new clothing items!! I see a big 80% off sale coming!! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Farang, you may not intend to, but you are doing the clothing modellers and merchants here a huge disservice by spouting speculation and opinion based on other applications as fact. First, as others have mentioned, relative to existing clothing being able to take advantage of cloth/collision/gravity features... those who know all the details relative to this question can't say or in the case of CL, haven't said yet, so this is pure speculation. Second, relative to the same subject, suppose none of the current clothes can take advantage of those features - so what? Does that make them any less useful for the millions of renders they've already been used in? Or the millions to come? If you choose to wait (months? til next year? who knows) for P5 to come out before you buy any more clothes, that's your choice, but please don't try to convince others that they should now boycot all current clothing items based on heresay and opinion. Clothes bought today will be just as useful in P5 (whenever it ships) as they are (today) in P4 - THAT is a (pre-stated by CL) fact... clothing items made for P5 may well have additional features (for animation purposes, etc.), but that doesn't make P4 clothing obsolete - not by a long shot.

Poppi, In case you're not joking, the answers to both of your questions can be found at the atttached link (scroll down to msg #198, if it doesn't take you there). 1. what you are proposing in this thread is completely forbidden. 2. There should be no problem selling your hand modelled vicki wardrobe. There's been a lot of speculation and mis-quoting on this subject, so the best thing to do is go read CL's reply at this link. Thread: Bottom Line About what is Poser5=$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
If you're counting on a $100 upgrade price from P4->P5, I think you're at least $80 off (and probably more than that). Kupa says above that Pro Pack users will get the best upgrade pricing (implying that there's no more Pro pack, they will be combined in P5), so you can start with the $150 upgrade price for that. They're not going to just 'give' it to Pro Pack users, so I figure at a bare minimum, you can add another $30-$50, making the P5 full package price a minimum of $400-$420 range. Of course they may have a different (higher) target price for the full package, but based on what's been shown and said, I don't see it being any lower (I'd love to be proven wrong, without screwing Pro Pck owners though). Of course this is Pure Speculation on my part, so it's up to you to decide if my reasoning is sound ;).

It was a joke, relative to the new cloth-draping features - look at the image.
