Great! I hope you enjoy them. Buying now is a good idea, because we intend to expand them. People who have already purchased will receive free upgrades, those who haven't may end up paying a higher cost later.
Thread: Circular Plane in Carrara 3D Basic - Is it Possible? | Forum: Carrara
Just create a spline object using a circle as the outline and don't extrude it. Then increase the definition and export that out.

Yeah, I had an issue getting the demo from Netwek. Took 3 months to get it last time when I requested a demo. Kind of annoying I think.

Good point shonner. I'd say I'm the same way. To me I'd say that Hexagon is the best program Eovia has at the moment. Great design and implementation.

Version 9 is a start of the rewrite, I believe the core will be finished or mostly finished. Quote from Newtek's website on 9.0:"The changes that have been made for the initial 9.0 release complete the necessary reconstruction of LightWave to begin implementing the desired new workflow." Its just a start to reworking LW. I'll wait on upgrading until things are stabilized and my wallet says its ok:) Which could be awhile. "797 available FREE plug-ins for Lightwave." Yep! Really a lot are very similar. Also, a lot of the plugins are scripts. Good stuff if you own LW.

If you do end up getting LW. Flay.com is an excellent resource. If I had the finances, I might consider upgrading my version of LW. But I'll probally hold back until after they do the full rewrite that is in the works. Don't forget that there are many free plugins available for Carrara. 14 excellent examples are here: http://www.associatedfx.com/win_plugins.html Goodluck in your decision making.Thread: Looking for encouragement | Forum: Carrara
I also have the book. Brian Taylor is using Infini-D. It just goes to show that you don't need the best most feature ridden software to make good work:) I'd agree the LW deal is a good one. Like I told you on the yahoo list. :) Give everything a try and see what works with you.

you may have also considered such details as no hand >twisting, no finger twisting and limiting finger side-to->side motions to joint 1. Not exactly sure what you mean by no hand twisting. But if you are refering to hand-wrist twisting then no there isn't. The way that the parent is prevents this. The forearm twists but not the wrist. Though you could easily twist the wrist if you used a different controller. Constraints don't permit finger twisting. Joint 1? Do you mean the index finger? I had limited side-to-side constraints set up for all the fingers, since fingers generally have a limited amount of motion, but was forced to change this because it was causing issues with rotation. A small detail that shouldn't be noticed when animating, and if necessary you could enable the side-to-side ability you'd just have to be careful with the movements. The point of this setup was for quick and easy manipulation with a good deal of control of the mesh being deformed.
Thread: Hexagon vs. Silo - Opinions | Forum: Carrara
I'd disagree with Modo a bit. Its nice, but you have the same tools and functionality in both Silo and Hexagon. The only advantage would be that you get a 201 upgrade for free and would then get the renderer and texturing capabilities. I'd say if you have Hexagon then use it, it has all the necessary tools to model. And there always will be a program that has more features that you think you'll need. Though if you do have the finances and need a rendering and texturing program then Modo is a nice deal.

Hehe. The attached address is not the file. Its a link to the Eovia forums where the file can be found. You can also find the file at my site. http://www.vizualds.com where there is a link to the eovia site and 3dxtract.

I'd recommend not being tempted by "deals" and actually explore LW a bit before taking the plunge. Great offers do not always mean that you will like the software.

Depending on the purpose of your experiment. You could create the necessary models in Carrara. And export to either of these: (game engines) http://www.otee.dk/index.html http://www.candointeractive.com/gamedesign/car/
