Thread: IK Manager Python Script for Poser 12 | Forum: MarketPlace Showcase
Miss B posted at 6:19PM Mon, 08 March 2021 - #4414574
I've never felt I had a need to use IK for any of my human characters in Poser, but there's an exercise in a lesson in a Blender class I'm taking that uses IK, but on a portion of an "object" rather than a character's hands or feet, so will definitely be interesting to see.
IK can make some parts of figure posing easier, like sitting poses, putting a foot over an object, or making a hand reach for something. In another case, female poses often require a hip tilt, and for that we will need IK to keep the feet on the ground. We may also want a hand to stay at a specific place while we move the torso, and that's a call for IK. It has its uses, but I guess the bottom line is that Poser makes it hard to manage IK states by having to hunt for it in menus, we can only do 1 change at a time, and there is no way to see the IK states on the limbs by just looking at the viewport. This tools aims to ease all that. ^__^

I'm not sure yet if I would have a need for this, as I don't usually create poses from scratch, but I do like the idea, and it looks as if you've put together something vendors, who do specialize in pose packs, will have good reason to use.
I use it regularly when making my own scenes, like when I want to combine parts of a pose with another, or just reset parts of the body or pose. Poser offers no way of doing those things on its own. For example, just resetting a hand pose can be an exercise in patience. :)

I actually don't know what the deal was. I just know he didn't seem motivated to continue working on the XS script anymore than he already did. But I bet Rendo has offered Ralf's family a deal to benefit them financially, or else why would they provide the source code? One thing is for sure - if his code isn't upgraded to Python 3, all his work will be lost. I do not believe Rendo (or anybody) wants that to happen.

I'd like to try it with low-resolution buildings. I suppose it would work as well.
Oh I did that with the original Scatter Tool for Poser 11 to build a random city. I have used the cube primitive, mapped with a building texture. It came out like this.
Maybe it could look more realistic if I used more texture variety, and reduced the rotation variations, since cities use more of a regular grid layout. In another variation with cubes, I made a maze by disabling size and rotation variations, and making the cube size so it fits the others. This is what came out.
In this new version for Poser 12, we can now paint scattering zones straight on the surfaces using the Group Editor, so we could paint a city layout with roads, and scatter a much more realistic city. On another example, I have used the tool to build me brick walls to use in Bullet physics simulations with 1-click. It used to be tedious to pile the bricks by hand.
Every brick is placed at a vertex from the scatter plane, so I shift every other vertex row to the side, and make it a morph dial, which can be used to scatter bricks to look like a wall. If you are more nature inclined, the tool can be used to create landscapes, like the one below. I have placed one of Lisa Botanics cherry trees on the plane, and the scatter tool did the rest. ^___^

I agree that no one should work for free on a challenging task, such as trying to make sense of Ralf's code. If someone would be up to the task, that would be Snarly. He has the source code, but you have to have a will of iron to delve into that kind of cryptic code without a good reason. The best he could do was to have it partially working in P12 without error or crashes, but it's still mostly dysfunctional.
For the record XS does miles more than EZSkin by a long shot. We can even reconfigure and reconnect shader nodes in a different way over multiple materials in 1 go. For example, select all the hair material zones, change the specular values, and plug whatever is plugged into the bump map to the specular channel - all in 1 go. In another example, if we have 40 copies of a prop on a scene, we can edit their materials all in 1 go. Or edit the material from 1 of them, then copy to all others, no matter how many MAT zones they have, all in 1 go.

LOL I have tried to sweet talk him, but I understand he deserves more than that for such a effort. I have worked a bit with Ralf's code when we worked together years ago, and I have to say I wouldn't want to be on Snarly's skin on this task. Ralf's code is one of the most challenging to read I have seen in a long time. I don't know how he understood any of his own code.
Nonetheless, I find XS essential for my workflow in Poser, and it has been HARD going without it in version 12. Since the question was asked above, about which of D3D's scripts I would like to have in Poser 12, XS would be my highest priority.

Thread: What do place my Python script development threads? | Forum: Poser Python Scripting
Oh my, I have been with HW for so long that I forgot there are still Poser/DS people who can't get along. Since my products are mostly for Dawn, maybe that shouldn't be an issue, because we had plenty of people from both sides at the HW forums, and we all get along just well. Since DS is well served with contents, I imagine the great majority of my customers are from Poser, though. DS people using Dawn has become a rarity these days, and that might explain where some people got the idea that Dawn would be a Poser-only figure.
Since my current priorities are on scripts for Poser 12, I will start at the Poser forums, and then go from there. Thank you for the info! Now I know who to talk to if I need to open a Poser/DS products vendor thread. :)

Thanks for the feedback, @FVerbaas. It was good that I asked before posting, because these threads have a double purpose, and (like you said) here would be the wrong place. However, 95% of my products are for both Poser and DS, using native platform file formats. Only my Python scripts are Poser-only. The whole HW community forums was multiplatform by nature, but Rendo seems to be more specialized. The Python scripts could be at the Poser thread, but the rest would probably need to be elsewhere.
I am not so concerned about my other products at the moment, since more recently I have been concentrating on Python scripts for Poser. However, I would still like to maintain a general vendor thread (Poser and DS). Especially when here at Rendo, we still have a lot of people believing Dawn would be a Poser-only figure. Someone told me that just today, so there is a lot of misinformation going on - even when Dawn has been out for over 8 years.
So if I wanted to have a Poser/DS vendor products thread, where should that be?

Ok, the links weren't wiped out, but Rendo adds it's own domain to them, making them all invalid if we just click them. To be able to use the links, we have to copy them, remove the Rendo domain, and add the "https://" part back to it.
That's why it would be more practical if I could just create my dev threads here, so I don't have to link things. Just waiting to know where vendor dev threads of this kind should be placed, so I don't put them at the wrong places! Where should that be?

The bottom line was that links from the main page were no longer working. We have to manually type in the forums URL address and bookmark it instead. If we try from the main page, it will require the store login and password, which no longer exist. The store and forums used different logins, and that's why people couldn't get in. Just use the URL address MissB has suggested, and you should be good to go. :)
