oh-well, if the archives weren't disabled I could post a link to a thread in the writers forum that is good news. :P I started it, last week. thread titled something like: Writing..Professionally

jon, one of thier staff posted in a blog for us linux advocates to put up or shut up basically, to submit articles for publication on linux in order for the site to have more content, not just complain about a lack of content. I sent him an email detailing a list of 6 subjects that are focussed on people who have never looked at linux and he said yes, they would definately be interested in them. in the discussion attached to the article, as well as with a few other discusions, the second series I was thinking about has been requested. articles on specific applications, installing, configuring and using them. [ an example being ethereal, a network traffic monitoring tool ] the rest of the original series: 1) basic configuration for desktop use, as well as server use. 2) installing software from sources, or from a package manager package. 3) securing the system from hacking attempts. 4) managing user accounts 5) scheduling automatic tasks. the second series covers over 15000 different programs. a third series would be reviewingeach of the over 300 linux distributions, from installation to configuration, with the show stopper points detailed. [ in example, my computer will not boot the SuSe distribution, the scsi module thier kernel uses locks my computer up. with Sun's Solaris, thier usb-uhci module locks my system up, yet every other linux has no problems with the usb-uhci module. ] the show stoppers make picking a distribution more of a challenge. dialyn, Linux is an operating system, lynx is a text only web browser. :) [ no pictures, no frameset support, poor table support, no flash plugin ] the basic text only makes lynx, and it's clone text only browser very fast with most sites. the drawback is poor site design with most sites, even here, for the text only option.
Thread: Personally responding to image comments/posts? | Forum: Community Center
it's your own choice as to reply or not, it's not required at all by renderosity. it is a good pr type practice, which helps with ratings for the hot 20 etc. but the larger your gallery becomes, the more time it takes to check for comments then. :)
Thread: Be careful of what you ask for... | Forum: Community Center
it's being used on a few sites. where when you start a thread, or upload an image you create a tag. the tags are searchable. this adds to the search functionality mmensely. adding a switch to make a tag an exclude wouldn't be a hard alteration. this would slow the site down a bit, since it's an enhancement, but it covers several enhancements requested, as mentioned.

Thread: 2005 Renderosity Halloween Contest | Forum: Community Center
I'll debate with myself about it. maybe enter, just for the challenge of it. but like I said. the prizes don't interest me. so I don't really care about the popularity contest aspect. ( we all know I'm not the most popular person around. ;) nor the most disliked. :) )

Runtime Revolution's programming tool is the only prize I would be interested in*, and I have it already, it came with one of my boxed linux versions. ( Runtime Revolution itself, now called Studio ) *I actually don't use it, as the interface doesn't work for me.
