Either drag after clicking intrude to give the walls some thickness or instead of intruding assign the hole material to the polygon on the bottom. That poly will then be deleted when you export from Wings. - Baz

I notice you have spaces between the books on some shelves Moe, maybe you should have a few books leaning over in these spaces? It would look a little more natural. - Baz

25000! Hell that's not many, I'm impressed with your efficiency Moe, wonderful job! - Baz

This is astounding work mate! You really are a glutton for punishment! This question is more a matter of curiosity than criticism so don't be offended. :) With all that detail and modelled books it's a fairly high poly scene I would think? Lots of polys are the last thing you want when animating so wouldn't some of this detail have been better acheived with normal maps and/or displacement? Baz

Perfectly matching ref certainly help but the chances of finding a perfect full face and profile of a celebrity, both images with an identical expression etc are slim. You have to do your best with what you have! - Baz
Thread: Any MODO users? | Forum: 3D Modeling
There is a Modo demo now, check their site.
Just don't be fooled into thinking a high price tag means it's a better app! I've not tried Modo yet but from what I've read it's still missing some important features and probably couldn't be described as mature. Silo is missing some features as well in my opinion. I doubt there is anything you could model in Modo that you couldn't in Silo (or Wings for that matter, and Wings is free) but Modo probably has a wider range of techniques available. I believe it has fairly good spline tools whereas Silo's spline options are very primitive. Then again Cinema CE has very good spline tools and that's free!
Bottom line is you've got to try them yourself and see which you prefer. The new Eovia modeller Hexagon sounds very good and may be just what you're looking for, no demo yet though.
Is Modo worth the extra $$$, in my opinion NO modeller is worth that much. Bear in mind XSI experience is about $200 cheaper, has all the tools you're ever likely to need (including animation, dynamics, top of the line renderer etc..... and is one of the most respected apps on the planet! No mac version though unfortunately. I think Luxology's pricing strategy is waaaay off. But maybe that's just me! - Baz Oops! Cross posted there Kemal!

Cheers Stu! That looks cool, I'd like to lose a lot of those menus and claim more modelling space but it sounds like that's possible! :o) So as a champion of Amapi which do you prefer?

So hows the interface, another mad Eovia design or have they joined the real world? lol! I have to say, until there is a demo, I'll be very cautious about this, every version of Amapi I've tried on Mac has been a disaster, either impossibly slow or ludicrously buggy! I hope they've done it right this time, they do have some great ideas and I understand Amapi is great on Windows! - Baz
Thread: Listing App Used | Forum: 3D Modeling
Yeah I think the Silo shortcuts are chosen so similar commands are close together (like vert, edge, face and object modes) whereas in Wings they're chosen to sound right (e for edge, v for vert, f for face and b for body). It makes Wings shortcuts easy to remember but not necessarily ergonomically efficient. Both methods have their merits IMO! :o) Besides it only takes a few minutes to remap Silos shortcuts to the Wings keys you're familiar with, the toolset is VERY similar. Silo also has a few superb workflow advantages like being able to map double click to a command is superb. I have double left click assigned to edge loop select and shift click assigned to edge ring select, very slick! On the other hand Silo's edge loop select isn't as predictable as Wings, it doesn't always select a true edge loop which can be irritating. Also a great tip from TJNYC (I think) assign smooth (not subdivide) to mouse wheel down, it acts almost like a paintbrush smooth! Anyway, this is getting very app specific so I'll shut up! :o) - Baz
