There's been backward compatibility issues for years, especially when new nodes were added. There's also a forward compatibility issue with SuperFly. Firefly renders blank image nodes white, I think early versions of SuperFly rendered them black, and the newest renders them magenta. 

Okay....so Superfly is powered by Cycles... I had to look it up.  I kept on confusing it with Firefly LOL.   I use cycles in blender and it's awesome, I do find it a bit of a resource hog though....depending if one uses GPU or CPU...
