Following the steps I was taught, I've almost finished it.  I tried ignoring a few of the precautions, and every single one ended in failure.  And, in most cases, the bulge maps in the joints did not port over into the clothing successfully.  So, to achieve a better finish, it was necessary to use the joint editor.  I hope the “Fit” function proves excellent for beginners.  I was too busy today to try it.  Well, as Molly says, it doesn't seem likely to generate very good results, though.
