Can't say motor oil, unless its Burning oil worn valve seals or piston rings, your in trouble, i know that smell, but fresh gasoline, can't beat it, like freshly mown grass unmistakable, not that you have much of that in your neck of the woods...!!

I have always just run a vented plug as an oil cap. my trained nose can smell hot oil the hotter the more stringent it smells time to stop a minute let things cool down some, could be a artifact of Desert riding too.
