I've heard from the Copyright Office today and after careful examination, they canceled my U.S. Copyright Office Registration.
This makes it clear that, as of right now, visual work created by Midjourney isn't copyrightable even if you use your original story and a layout.
They said that the visual work shall be substantially made by a human to be copyrightable and they overlooked that mine was made by Midjourney (I mentioned it on the cover page of the graphic novel that I submitted).


Meanwhile, in my neck of the woods, this from a lawyer. Lengthy argument for reform of Canadian copyright law to allow protection of such works because artists & authors are using AI the same as any other creative tool: it doesn't do a flippin' thing without human input.
