There are builds that let you run on a less video RAM but I have a 4 gig card so no problem. As for system RAM. There is 16 on that machine with the 4 gig RTX card and the System Monitor only shows about 4.5 system RAM at peak load.Byrdie posted at 12:54 PM Fri, 21 October 2022 - #4447205All I have installed is Discord I can't believe any home computer could hold an Ai OS because it would have yo be an OS or an AI program that would take more system Ram than any normal user has. I have 16gig sys Ram it would take 10x that and ever increasing because Ai learns that is what Ai does, I can't believe you can have an actual Ai program on a home PC.I've tried several times but they never work. Could be because my PC is about 7 years old and running on Win 8. Can't run Topaz Gigapixel eitherHave you tried running your own install or do you just prefer MidJourney? I tried it out and yes, it does burn thru the image allotment fairly quickly, especially to someone who's new and trying to figure the thing out. They don't always tell you what counts against your credits. Well, if they did at the time I couldn't find it. I did like it, though not the hassle of searching all over the discord for wherever it would dump my stuff. But it's expensive, especially if you want the option to use your images commercially and if you wanted a private channel you'd have to be rich to afford it. Not to mention all the restrictions. I can see why they wouldn't want porn and the like on a public server but their banned words list is really over the top. Someone on reddit wanted a really BIG, fluffy cat and of course Maine Coons are known for their size and their floof. Put it in their prompt, hoping to get super-sized kitty and ... "Don't even try", they reported back. Equally amusing (not!) the phrase "no bra" is banned because of the PG even in private channel rule. But so is "no braid" because of course you can't type braid without b-r-a. And some folks think the TOS at places like Daz and R'osity are strict. At least here I can do fan art without hassle and nobody will automatically break out the ban hammer if I feel like posting a scene depicting the epic butt-kicking of Adolph Hitler by a sexy, bikini clad Black Panther. Or a Maine Coon cat.
I have only just seen this thread after one in the Poser forum strayed into AI art and was locked and removed so I haven't perused the entire thread. I prefer a local install because like many here I am retired and broke. There is another reason though. Workflow. I'm an old school photographer. I treat this exactly the same way and that would cost me entirely too much cash.
Like photography I crank out a roll of film on my subject. (multiple images from the same prompt via random seed)
I peruse the results and pick one or two I can work with. (ai makes a lot of duds)
I then make a contact sheet of images at different exposures to pick an image I like. (grid layout x, y, plot of Steps vs CFG)
Now this step would be ai only. Run a seed variance plot to fine tune pose or scenery or whatever.
With my "final" print I would check it with a loupe looking for marks to "spot" out or fill. Burn and or dodge parts of my image that didn't have the contrast that I need. (inpainting and outpainting)
In some cases enlargements may be required (upscaling)
I am not entirely sure that type of workflow can done online and at a cost that makes it worth while.
