I think all these Ai systems are actually algorithm driven systems Algorithms are held in Programable Array Logic(PALs) or Pin Grid Arrays(PGAs) so that's Hardware  not Software. At least that's how I see it of course I've been out of the Industry for a while so who knows what they have come up with nowadays I haven't kept up with Hardware and Software development.
