For modeling, modo is outstanding. If you are going the professional route, prefer modo over Carrara. Carrara's modeling capability is adequate. modo's capability is state-of-the-art. Additionally, you'll thank yourself for the render quality and speed improvement alone. 

modo is not an insignificant investment, but it plays well in professional pipelines and the support both from the company and community is outstanding. The only thing modo doesn't do is import pre made content such as Poser/DAZ. 

I love Carrara and it still is a valuable tool in my toolbox, but for modeling, modo wins – no competition.
