I find it super slow as well anytime I'm using a character in a scene - the load and save times are crazy long and I have a super fast ssd.  I hardly use carrara anymore because of it. I don't know if saving a scene uncompressed would help, but I doubt it. If I figure anything out I'll post it here :)
