Subject: Modelling assistance - reverse chamfer?

In this image above, notice the cavity and the concaved bevel (for lack of any other way to describe it). This typically would be achieved using an extrude negatively. But you would be left with a harsh inner edge. Sometimes Chamfer works but sometimes the results are less than ideal.
