As much as it kills me, I have to agree with Luxxeon here.  Booleons are bullocks, unless you are modelling in Groboto or something.  That's the only program I've seen that can use them extremely well. with clean topo output.

Cinema has a spline extruder plugin that helps make really complex shapes simple to model.  The new Bevel Tool in C4D r15 has also just raised the bar in what is possible in box modelling without booleans.  I haven't seen an equal to it in any other modelling package.  Extremely powerful. Our team has been cranking out some very complex hard surface stuff in no time with it.
