As the name implicates the most common use is for sorting mail in a post office. All mail collected during the day (postboxes, customers,...) is tossed out on this table, followed by a basic sorting and control of postage. Ah, taxing mail with insufficient postage, that was the funny part of the job. But we don't do that anymore.
