Quote - So....I've only been at this for short time. I decided to be brave and post my first render. It's a portrait of my husband's rpg character. Any suggestions, advice would be welcomed.
A couple of easy changes can add some effect to the scene: convert the chalice and the buttons to metal, make them quite shiny. Also, the lighting would benefit from being "toned down" a bit. The lighting looks moders, lots of soft light but that was not possible in the period for the character. I would go do a small meshlight, set to 4000K color temperature and on the side of the character. That would recall a bit of the candle/torch lighting of the period. You could then add some more diffuse lighting to bring out the background.
Just my opinion, of course :)
Cheers.
