I have Verizon FIOS and it's consistently awesome. I just finished downloading a 1.2 GB file from SM in 18 minutes. That's a lot slower than some other sites I go to - about 1.1 MB/s. I've had downloads come to me at 20 MB/s from elsewhere.
Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)
