Ooh!  Thanks for the quick update!  :woot:

In all of my focusing on the errors in my test case and thinking about causes or fixes, I'm failing to emphasize how great this new hybrid approach is already.  The attached shows a very successful uphill correlation between V3 and Antonia.  The only shortcomings here are due to the places where the closest vert routine still shows itself, which is a vertex under the mouth, and the lacrimals.  I've cleaned it up with Restore Detail here, but it only needed it in the places where that seems inevitable with shape transfers, such as the ears.

The results are remarkable.  This is already quite a success.  In the midst of testing, I haven't considered optimal workflow.  When going uphill, the initial comparison can be run downhill, where flaws are less likely to show up, either with the hybrid or the closest vertices.  A shape transfer can then be run and possibly cleaned with Restore Detail.  This matched shape can then be used for the final comparison going uphill, with much better comparison conditions and very closely aligned mesh surfaces.

And the results are really great.  :woot:

Cage can be an opinionated jerk who posts without thinking.  He apologizes for this.  He's honestly not trying to be a turkeyhead.

Cage had some freebies, compatible with Poser 11 and below.  His Python scripts were saved at archive.org, along with the rest of the Morphography site, where they were hosted.
