Hmm. Looking at the normals more closely, maybe they are closer to 90 degrees apart. Which maybe could be the problem, too. If they're being screened by the dot product test, perhaps the ray normal can still end up skewed somehow. 
It's just an idea. :lol: All I really know is that the raycasting isn't finding a match in the area.
